THC and CBD important differences you should know

We can’t get enough of talking about THC and CBD, especially CBD!

On several occasions we have highlighted all the benefits of CBD, we have talked about its possible side effects, its uses and varieties, and how much it contributes to people’s physical and mental health.

However, there is a topic that is very important for us to talk about, and it is about the difference between THC and CBD since this often causes confusion in people.

It is very important for us that you have all the information you need about the use and properties of CBD as well as its benefits, that is why in this blog we will explain the difference between these two compounds.

THC and CBD? But what is what?

Before we know what is the difference between THC and CBD, we think it is a good idea to remind you first about what CBD is.

CBD (Cannabidiol) is a compound of the Cannabis sativa plant, this substance is used in various forms (oils, edibles, etc.) for various purposes exclusively related to improving people’s health.

It certainly has amazing benefits and as we have seen on multiple occasions, it can be helpful at the moment of fighting some specific health conditions.

So what is THC?

Now let’s talk about THC. Here we have a concept for you to understand what it is before we go deep into the differences between THC and CBD.

THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is the chemical responsible for the psychotic effects produced by the marijuana plant, generating effects in people on memory, perception of time, thoughts, concentration, and coordination.

Now that we have seen both definitions, let’s see some of the differences.

THC and CBD: What are the most important differences between the two?

Despite having similar molecular compositions, the effects of THC and CBD are very different.

Below, we list some of the most important differences that you should know.

1. They have different side effects

While the consumption of CBD can generate non-severe side effects such as fatigue, drowsiness, and changes in appetite, THC can have very different effects.

For example, THC  can cause concentration problems, memory loss,  can alter the perception of time, can cause vomiting, and dizziness.

2. They have different uses

CBD has been shown to be helpful as a treatment for anxiety, seizures, and insomnia problems.

The use of THC, on the other hand, is not consumed with the sole purpose of generating some type of physical or emotional well-being related to health.

Rather than that, it produces a state of euphoria, and can have other effects such as dry mouth, coordination problems, red eyes, etc.

3. Different psychoactive compounds

The reason THC has mind-altering effects while CBD does not is that they bind to different cannabinoid receptors.

There are two different types of cannabinoid receptors, which are CB1 and CB2. CB1 receptors are located in the central nervous system, while CB2 receptors are located in the peripheral nervous system.

So, because CB1 receptors can be found in the central nervous system, which includes the brain, the brain can also be affected. It is then because of this that THC causes psychoactivity.

Final thoughts

While it is true that THC and CBD have some similarities in chemical composition, and there tends to be some confusion regarding the difference between the two, the truth is that these substances are not the same.

THC and CBD differ in their effects on people, both secondary effects and the impact they have on people’s health.

Likewise, there is always an immense difference between the two, which will always lie in the use you give to both.
